It’s so good to meet you.

Hey there, I’m Allison.

I’m a full-time artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I paint emotive and colorful abstract paintings in a sun-filled home studio with a view of the Sandia Mountains. My creative process harnesses mindfulness, intuition, and somatic expression—read: frequent dance parties—to channel my emotions and the energy of the world around me. I’m a firm believer that all emotions are creative emotions, and that good art can come from both our soaring heights and shadowy depths.

I swam upstream to live my dream life, and have dedicated my time and energy to helping others do the same. Whether your creativity is best expressed by curating eclectic spaces with art that brings you joy or learning how to create your own colorful pieces, I’m so glad you’ve found this community. You are so, so welcome here.

Live life in pursuit of pleasure, not perfection

My Mantra -

John Mayer, Miles Davis, The Cranberries, and Ray LaMontagne

currently listening to -

The ability to take pictures with my eyes. That way I could get the perfect truly candid portraits of my loved ones. (Also, teleportation.)

superpower -

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

favorite movie -

Karl Benjamin, my grandfather. As a renowned abstract painter and educator, he taught me and multiple generations of artists how to combine personal integrity with an unwavering dedication to our craft. One of my favorite lessons comes from his early days as an elementary school teacher getting squirrely kids to settle down for the required hour of art: “Fill the page with color and don’t mess around.” I mean, it’s damn good advice.

favorite artist -

Rescue dogs that look like meerkats. With really, really big ears.

dogs or cats -

There are so many places I want to explore, but Japan, Sweden, and Peru are at the top of the list!

Allison Jones Hunt is an abstract painter based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her work uses color, intuitive form, and layers dancing between chaos and control to channel the full emotional spectrum, offering a permission slip to feel it all. Her creative practice uses the embodied act of painting as somatic processing and healing for herself, the viewer, and the world at large. Her paintings serve as visual reminders to feel all our feelings—and use them to create both the lives we want to live and the world in which we want to live them.

Allison is passionate about empowering folks of all abilities and intersectional identities to lean into our unique gifts and share our perspectives via authentic and deeply personal creative expression. The AJH Studio community is a supportive, safe space to process your emotions, share your experiences, and express what you need to express in ways that light and lift you up.
